Adding an IMAP in Mac OS X is fairly simple – you will need your outgoing and incoming server address as well as the username and password of the email account you are trying to add. To set up, follow the below steps:
- In OS X’s Mail application, browse to the Mail menu and select Preferences. Next select the Accounts tab and click the + button under the left hand column. The Add Account window will appear.
- Type in the full name as you would have it appear in the From field on an email, this is usually the email account holder full name, also enter the account’s email address and password and click Next.
- On the next screen, you should:
- Select IMAP from the drop down menu
- Give the account a description – it is recommended you make this the full email address of the account you are adding.
- Enter your incoming server address in the Mail Server field, which will take the form of mx[number].geekbox.co.uk – in this example we are using mx2.geekbox.co.uk.
- Enter your username and password. Your username is the full email address of the account you are adding.
- Click Continue.
- In the next screen, you should:
- Give the account a description – it is recommended you make this the full email address of the account you are adding.
- Enter your incoming server address in the Mail Server field, which will take the form of mx[number].geekbox.co.uk – in this example we are using mx2.geekbox.co.uk.
- Check the Use Authentication tick box.
- Enter your username and password. Your username is the full email address of the account you are adding.
- Click Continue.
- If all of the details have been entered correctly you should see the Accounts Summary window. Click Create to finish the account creation process. You will be taken back to the Preferences window in the first step. This is safe to close.
